Sustainability Is in KATZ's DNA
As we all know, sustainability is the talk of the town everywhere right now – but here at KATZ, it’s not just a trend. It’s an inseparable part of our DNA. This should come as no surprise, as the origins of KATZ can be found in wood processing. What might come as a surprise, however, is that we used to make telephone poles before we started making beverage coasters!
Even back then, we would take the wood waste from our production operations and reuse it, which is what actually gave rise to our first beer mat in 1903. It all started as a practical solution to a local problem, but it would eventually evolve over the decades into what is now our core business – all on the basis of the values we continue to hold today: Using resources responsibly and creating long-lasting solutions.
To put it another way, our history is proof: Sustainability was never something we added later on, but rather the place where we started. Our founders lived in an era where material scarcity was a certainty and precise craftsmanship and economic foresight were anything but optional. It went without saying that things had to be repaired instead of thrown away, that materials had to be reused several times, and that products had to be made to last for generations. That shaped the way we thought and did things from the get-go – and continues to do so. Whether it comes to product development, handling resources, or working together with partners: We are committed to long-term solutions that keep both the environment and our communities in mind.
